Starting inSeptember of 2014 I was a visiting professor at Chinese University of Hong Kong. On September 28th  I looked out of my office window and saw a crowd gathering on the main mall of the university. I learnt that the students were conducting a strike. The launch of several days of action by student and faculty members was organized in true Hong Kong style with efficiency and a sense of calm focus. The crowd was vast but there was no aggression. Students sat quietly through the proceedings cheering when the speeches were delivered. There were huge line-ups for buses at the bottom of the hill outside the East Rail Line station but everyone (including me) stood patiently waiting for a bus.
